Thanks for your help folks, I've enjoyed reading all the posts here since I subbed prior to purchasing a firearm. So my main question is this does this sound like something I can fix by taking it a part and giving it a good cleaning or is this an issue I should consult a gunsmith about? My followup question is what are the bare-bones necessities of maintenance and cleaning on an older shotgun such as this? Is there a good affordable cleaning kit I can find at a local gun shop? Or am I better off picking up some odds and ends at a place like Home Depot? I looked but could only find field stripping tutorials on Model 12s, are there any other Model 25 owners who can give me some tips (or better yet, some step-by-step guidance) to stripping mine apart? Either the shell would get stuck totally in the firing position (needing to be poked out with a rod) or it would drop back but not eject properly (needing to be picked out by hand). Not a huge deal, I just went back to shooting one at a time. I'd say 1 out of 3 times, it would get stuck (either not ejecting the spent shell fast enough or the new shell not getting loaded in properly). Noticed the first problem that when loading it full, the gun seemed to have trouble cycling in the new shells. Firing one shell at a time at first, everything is a-OK. It looked in pretty good condition ostensibly clean and all parts working seemingly perfectly.įast forward a few weeks and we take it out to a range to try it out. We went to a local gun show and picked up a Winchester Model 25 Pump-Action 12ga. So after using a groupon for a round of sporting clays, my wife and I decided to pick up a shotgun to do some recreational trap/skeet/sporting on our own. Is this a cleaning issue, or something I need a gunsmith for? Do any other Model 25 owners have any advice for stripping/cleaning? What are the absolute bare-bones necessities of cleaning/maintenance on an older shotgun? TL DR up front like a boss: Winchester Model 25 Pump 12ga not cycling/ejecting properly.
